JEDDAH, 10 October 2006 — Saudi Cable Company (SCC) has a number of projects in the Kingdom as well as in other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states. One is the installation of overhead transmission lines between Alkhobar and Madinah. The estimated cost of the project is SR60 million ($16 million) and entails full turnkey design, engineering, manufacture, erection and commissioning of 200 KM of 380 kV overhead lines. The supplier of the project is being handled by SCC’s Bahrain subsidiary, Midal Cable and is due for completion next year.
In addition SCC is engaged in a high voltage contract with Aramco’s Khursaniyah project. The 220kV and 115Kv lead-sheathed cables will be delivered to project’s contractors — Techimont, Snamprogetti, and Technip.
SCC has just completed a multi-circuit overhead transmission line, said to be the only one of its kind in Asia and the Middle East. The 380 kV line connects King Abdul Aziz Airport in Jeddah with the Jeddah south main grid station. A further two 380 kV transmission lines link the Jeddah South station to Shoaiba Power Station.
“We have installed all five circuits instead of the usual three,” said Selim Al-Rashid, sales engineer for project development, adding,” The design is ours and we have been certified by the ISO 9001:2000 for design and manufacturing. Saudi Cable was the first company in the Middle East to be ISO 9001:2000 certified.”
SCC is also preparing to work on the Q-chem-2 project in Qatar in accord with Technip, as well as supplying cable to Technip’s Kuwait Petrochemicals Industrial Company. Bahrain has also signed several contracts with SCC for national grid extensions with the world’s largest 220kv underground cable to be laid.
“In six months this year we won contracts in excess of SR850 million for all types of cables,” Al-Rashid explained.
