LONDON, 12 October 2006 — The dollar lost ground against the euro here yesterday ahead of the release of minutes from the last meeting of the US Federal Reserve.
The single European currency in late-day deals was at 1.2555 dollars after 1.2535 late Tuesday in New York. The dollar was meanwhile trading at 119.47 yen, against 119.70 on Tuesday. The euro was changing hands at 1.2555 dollars against 1.2535 dollars on Tuesday, 150.06 yen (150.10), 0.6758 pounds (0.6761) and 1.5941 Swiss francs (1.5918). The dollar stood at 119.47 yen (119.70) and 1.2697 Swiss francs (1.2696).
On the London Bullion Market, gold prices climbed to $574.10 per ounce from $571.40 late on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, European stock markets advanced yesterday. The London FTSE 100 index of leading shares gained 0.01 percent to close at 6,073.50. In New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 26.01 points, or 0.22 percent, at 11,841.16.
Asian stocks closed mixed yesterday. In Tokyo, the Nikkei-225 index closed down 76.68 points or 0.47 percent at 16,400.57.
