JEDDAH, 17 October 2006 — Some neighborhood tricksters caused some to delay the start of their daily Ramadan fast when they locked the local imam in the bathroom of the mosque as he was performing his ablution (wudhu) in preparation for his call for fajr prayer as dawn approached. After local residents became suspicious when dawn broke without the prayer call, they searched the area until they found the imam pounding on the washroom door yelling to be freed. Apparently, according to the people who finally freed their imam, the boys were trying to delay the call in order to gulp down a few more mouthfuls of water. But we at Arab News suspect that maybe the boys had an ulterior motive: Being boys.
