DUBAI/AJMAN, 18 October 2006 — The National Election Committee (NEC) launched an awareness campaign through the Arabic local radio stations targeting the Electoral College (EC) members. The campaign is a continuation of the program set by the NEC to spread awareness amongst the public and the EC members on the upcoming FNC election process that will take place on Dec. 16, 18 and 20.
The radio campaign comes as part of a series of NEC initiatives to educate the public on the first ever UAE elections. The initiatives have been covered in both Arabic and English newspapers through ads and news materials and the NEC is set to launch a TV ad on local channels soon to reach EC members.
The NEC is also planning a number of training seminars in universities and institutes all over the country starting from a recent meeting between Dr. Anwar Gargash, minister of state for FNC sffairs and head of the NEC students and professors at Al-Ain University.
Tariq Hilal Lootah, secretary-general of FNC Affairs Ministry, member of the NEC and head of the Election Management Committee (EMC), said: “The NEC is working on a number of education programs to inform the general public and EC members about the elections. The (EC) members can be updated on the latest news through the daily newspapers and advertisements. They can also interact with the NEC through the website (www.uaenec.ae) which is dedicated to provide information and the latest updates on the FNC elections.”
Meanwhile, the Election Management Committee held a meeting with the Ajman Election Committee on Monday as part of following up with the emirates’ sub-committees on election procedures. The meeting was attended by Saeed Al-Ghafli, assistant secretary-general of the FNC Affairs Ministry and Emirates sub-committee coordinator, Ahmed Ibrahim Al-Ghamlasi, head of the Ajman Election Committee, Lt. Col. Abdulla Ibrahim Al-Mannaei, representing the police, Yehya Ibrahim Al-Rayaisa, representing the municipality, Mohammed Abdullah Alwan and Aicha Khalfan bin Bader.
The attendees discussed the methods of executing the election by-laws.
