JEDDAH, 18 October 2006 — Stiff competition is expected from several top players at the 16th Perrier Open Tennis Classic being held at Albilad Hotel here from Nov. 9 to Dec. 8
This year’s event will be divided into seven categories — men’s singles A, B and C, men’s Saudi only, men’s doubles, juniors 16 years and under, and juniors 12 years and under, according to Rafi Ahmed Khan of Basamh Trading, which is sponsoring the event.
“The Perrier tournament has become one of the most prestigious events in the tennis calendar and attracts all of the Kingdom’s top players,” Bob Wilson, recreation manager at the hotel, said yesterday. Last year’s winner of the men’s A singles and No. 1 player in the Kingdom Rico Gonzales will once again be looking to defend his title. Stiff competition is expected from some of the other top players including Saudi national Fahmi Saleh, Ahmed Mehelmy, Manny Valleramos and Ahmed Zulfiqar, Wilson said.
