DUBAI, 18 October 2006 — Dubai’s imports rate has shown an increase of 13 percent in 2005 compared to the previous years taking 2003 as the basic year. The export and re-export rate has also shown an increase of eight percent last year.

According to the 16th edition of the Annual Bulletin of Foreign Trade Indexes of the emirate of Dubai published by Dubai Municipality Statistics Center, it is noticed that the general indexes of foreign trade prices of all types (imports/exports/re-exports) have increased in 2005 compared with the previous years taking 2003 as the basic year. The rate of imports has increased to 113.38 and the rate of exports and re-exports rose to 108.07 in 2005.

The total value of imports during 2005 stood at over AED190 billion at the rate of 85.6 percent whereas the value of exports stood at over AED11 billion at the rate of 78.3 percent, excluding crude oil and its derivatives. The total value of re-exports stood at around AED79 billion at the rate of 86.4 percent.

The bulletin measures the size of foreign trade movement and its trends and calculates the averages of business exchange.

The composition and publication of this new series of index, which is being issued since 1991 as per the harmonized system, depend on what the Statistics Department at Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation provides of free detailed data in quantity and quality of imports, exports and re-exports.
