GRC Hosts Yemen Symposium in Dubai

DUBAI, 9 November 2006 — The Gulf Research Center (GRC) and the Yemeni Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation will conduct a closed-door symposium in Dubai today, to discuss issues related to Yemen’s admission to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). “The main objective of the symposium is to manifest the importance of historic and cultural relations between Yemen and GCC countries and discuss strategic, security and political issues and developments associated with Yemen’s GCC membership to the bloc in the future,” said the GRC chairman, Abdulaziz Sager. The event will be attended by senior officials from the GCC and Yemen, as well as regional experts.

Agreement Signed for White Bay

DUBAI — Sheikh Abdullah ibn Rashed Al-Mualla, Umm Al-Quwain deputy ruler, and Sheikh Tariq ibn Faisal Al-Qassimi, chairman of the Emirates Investments Group (EIG) have recently signed an agreement that will see the establishment of White Bay, a master planned community and tourism resort within the Emirate of Umm Al-Quwain. With further details to be announced in the coming weeks, the project is worth more than AED8 billion. It will be marketed and managed by Emirates Sunland Group (ESG).

Colliers Enters Into Indian Market

DUBAI — Colliers International, one of the top three global property service consultants, has been appointed by India’s leading real-estate developer, DLF Ltd., to offer retail development consultancy on its flagship shopping centers, Mumbai Mall and Mall of India. The move officially marks Colliers International’s entry into the Indian retail real estate market, which is predicted to experience double digit growth with more than 300 shopping centers expected to come on line by 2010. Dubai-Based Firm Wins Marina 101 Contract

DUBAI — Kicking off development of the pioneering 101-story freehold residential money back concept tower, Marina 101 in Dubai Marina, the Dubai-based realty major, Sheffield Real Estate, yesterday announced awarding piling and foundation contract for the AED1.4 billion million Marina 101 project to Dubai-based Middle East Foundation. Commenting on the award of the contract to the piling foundation company which has a trail of proven track record in the regional construction industry, a top official of Sheffield Real Estate said mobilization of the work area has already begun preparing the ground for the construction of one of the tallest hotel apartment towers in the world, which is being developed in collaboration with Rustar Real Estate, Russia’s most respected property firm in Dubai.

Nakheel Forms Health & Safety Department

DUBAI — Nakheel, the UAE’s leading property developer, working with PCFC Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), has formed the Nakheel Occupational Health & Safety Department. The new department will see the formation of a 25 strong team of Health and Safety professionals within Nakheel, with EHS continuing to act as the regulatory authority for all matters relating to environmental, health and safety compliance across the Nakheel portfolio. A phased program of transition will see Nakheel Occupational Health and Safety responsible for monitoring health and safety performance of Nakheel appointed contractors, health and safety training for Nakheel staff, and both managing and developing Nakheel’s health and safety procedures and corporate strategy.
