JEDDAH, 11 November 2006 — A quick-thinking Filipino truck driver risked his own life by driving his truck off a bridge in order to avoid hitting dozens of youths who had gathered around a car that had broken down in the middle of the bridge in Jeddah on Thursday, the Al-Madinah newspaper reported. According to eyewitnesses, the youths were standing in the path of the truck, which was roaring ahead at full speed. In order to avoid hitting the youngsters and with hardly any time to stop, the driver slammed his breaks and swerved his vehicle off the bridge. The truck fell onto a road several meters below. The Filipino driver was immediately taken to hospital, his condition is said to be critical.
