HYDERABAD, India, 11 November 2006 — Nine Maoists, including a few prominent leaders, were killed in a major encounter with the police in Kadapa district in Andhra Pradesh yesterday morning. Two Maoists were also killed in another encounter in Warangal district in the early hours. Incidentally, Kadapa is the home district of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy.
Kadapa District Superintendent of Police Y. Nagi Reddy told Arab News that “it happened around 11 a.m.”
