MUMBAI, 16 November 2006 — Four more people were convicted of involvement in 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts by a Terrorist and Disruptive Activities Act (TADA) court yesterday.
Mubina Bhiwandiwala, film producer Ahmed Shah Umbra Shah alias Salim Khan Durrani, Aziz Ahmed Mohammed Ahmed Shaikh and Mohammed Rafiq Musa Biyariwala, were found guilty by Judge P.D. Kode of involvement in the February 1993 blasts that killed nearly 200 people.
Durrani, Biyariwala and Mubina were convicted of aiding and abetting a terrorist act. Durrani was found guilty of possessing an AK-56 rifle and two magazines, which the police had seized in Andheri suburb of Mumbai.
The second accused Ahmed Shaikh was found guilty of possessing a carbine, three magazines and 28 bullets. The judge did not accept Shaikh’s confession as it was not recorded as per the TADA Act’s requirement. However, the judge acquitted Shaikh of the charges of conspiracy because of lack of evidence.
Musa Biyariwala was found guilty of aiding and abetting terrorists and involvement in arms smuggling. The accused, a driver of Tiger Memon, was also found guilty of helping some accused flee to Pakistan via Dubai for armed training. Biyariwala had gone to the Sahar International Airport together with another co-accused Asghar Mukadam to see off the accused.
Mubina, the fourth accused, was found guilty of organizing a meeting at her Bandra residence where Tiger Memon and other accused had drawn up plans to carry out the Mumbai blasts. Out of the 123 accused arrested in the blasts case, 75 have been convicted so far.
