JEDDAH, 16 November 2006 — A number of local distributors and agents who visited the Indian textiles’ buyer-seller meet at the Trident Hotel here yesterday said that they were impressed with the designs and quality of products displayed by 44 exhibitors from 22 Indian companies. The two-day meet, organized by the Synthetic & Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council (India) in association with the Indian embassy and consulate, ends today.
Ziad Bassam Al-Bassam, vice chairman of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and chairman of the JCCI’s Small Business Support Center, who opened the meet, said: “I’m greatly impressed with the quality and price of the textiles on display.” He hoped that Indian products in general and textiles in particular would find vast scope in the Saudi market, especially with millions of overseas pilgrims coming from the world over for Haj and Umrah.
Indian Ambassador M.O.H. Farook said Indian textiles had earned worldwide fame and hoped that the country’s exquisite designs and quality would find a good market. Indian Consul General Dr. Ausaf Sayeed particularly referred to Indian sari material on display and said ready made Indian saris were already being imported here by local dealers.
