QUNFUDA, 18 November 2006 — A man who owed SR200,000 received a windfall from the sky in the form of a rare bird. Khalaf Al-Zahrani, a hunter, noticed one day an odd-looking bird hovering near a popular migratory-bird rest stop, according to a report yesterday in the daily Al-Madinah. He decided to trap the animal and sell it to a local bird market. After waiting patiently for hours the man finally captured the animal and was surprised when a collector snatched the feathered rarity for SR280,000. Now the man has decided to pursue a career in catching rare birds as they fly over the Kingdom on their way to and from East Africa.
