JEDDAH, 21 November 2006 — Two brothers got an opportunity to spend some quality time together after both landed in jail for speeding, the daily Al-Madinah reported yesterday. The older brother found himself in jail after speeding and called his brother for help, hoping his younger sibling could get him a “get-out-of-jail-for-a-fee” card. After unsuccessfully attempting to come to some “arrangement” that might bail his older bro’, the young man drove to a local Al-Baik chicken shack to get some food for his relative. On his way back he was also stopped for speeding and tossed in the slammer next to his kin. The men were then compelled to share 24 hours together in close quarters.
Teachers Buy More Time Off Work
TAIF, 21 November 2006 — The principal of a local girl’s school here came up with a plan to raise funds, namely by selling work hours to the teachers, the daily Al-Watan reported yesterday. The principal implemented a policy by which teachers donate the portion of their salaries equivalent to days where they didn’t work a full eight hours or were absent from duty. The principal said the policy would be a way for teachers to clear their conscience for not working their full shifts while at the same time raising funds to help the poorer students in the school. The teachers welcomed the honor-based system — after all, perhaps it’s not a bad option to buy time off work.
