JEDDAH, 27 November 2006 — Thirty girls and boys showed off their talents as public speakers and youth leaders in their debut performance in Alkhobar recently in the presence of more than 300 people, mostly parents. The venue was the Nesma village auditorium that witnessed the grand finale of a youth leadership program conducted by the CIGI Toastmasters Club in the Eastern Province.
The program, according to coordinator T.M. Shaila Koya, was aimed at sharpening the already-existing leadership and communication skills of the participants. An informal learning program of the Toastmasters International, it was conducted as a workshop in order to train students to draft and present their ideas in an organized and eloquent manner. Workshops were held on topics such as public speaking, organizing speeches, the art of listening, and impromptu speaking.
The speech contest was a pageant of the newly acquired communication skills of the youth leaders. Afshan C. Koya won first place, Farzan Qadir Koya second and Ahlam Abdul Razzack third.
The table topic winners were Akash Blasubramaniam, Yssir Omer and Reem A. Razak.
