CAIRO, 28 November 2006 — Leading Egyptian comedienne Suad Nasr who has been in a coma at the Ain Shams Specialist hospital in Cairo for the past several months is not clinically dead, Ashraf Zaki, chief of the Egyptian Actors’ Guild told the daily Al-Watan yesterday.
Suad has been in a coma for the past 11 months after she underwent a lipectomy in order to make her body slim. The doctors involved in the cosmetic surgery denied any medical error on their part and attributed her coma to an earlier cerebral thrombosis.
Her illness has sparked a quarrel between her ex-husband Abdul Warith and her current husband Muhammad Abdul Munim. Warith accuses Munim of not doing enough to get proper treatment for Suad. He also claims that he pressured Suad into getting the cosmetic surgery.
