MUSCAT, 28 November 2006 — The Greek private sector has to play its cards well in order to tap into the tremendous economic potential being offered by Oman, Greek Deputy Finance Minister Peter G. Doukas said here yesterday just hours before Greek President Carolos Papoulis left Oman following a three-day visit.
In an interview with the Times of Oman published yesterday, Doukas said that the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Athens and Muscat was the starting point for future economic ties.
Asked whether Greek businessmen have found any investment opportunities in Oman, Doukas said, “In my opinion there are substantial opportunities in Oman for Greek companies and the MOU signed between the chambers of commerce of Athen and Oman is a starting point for many fruitful economic ties.”
Doukas was gushing with gratitude and happiness over the hosting of the Greek delegation by Oman. “We had an outstanding visit and we are excited both with the hospitality we received and about the progress the country is making and so we are all invariably impressed,” said Doukas. “We will put in a good word about Oman in Greece because we believe that that is correct and we invite Greek companies to set up joint ventures or single ventures, it is up to them,” he added.
