JEDDAH, 6 December 2006 — Thanima and Kerala Samajam, two cultural organizations of Indian expatriates in Jeddah, will jointly organize a variety of cultural, arts and sports programs to mark Kerala’s 50th anniversary, C.K. Muhammad Najeeb, chief patron of Thanima told a press conference here recently.
The two-month-long festivities began last Friday with contests for men in sports activities such as sack race, walking, lemon spoon, kabaddi, musical chair and tug of war. Cultural contests for schoolchildren will be held on Jan. 12. “All cultural programs for children will be held in Malalyalam in order to help them learn their mother tongue,” Najeeb said.
An essay competition will be held on “The future of Kerala‚” Najeeb said, adding that the contest will be open to all Keralites in Jeddah. The last date to receive the essays is Jan. 5, 2007. The essay should not exceed 10 pages. An exhibition and a symposium will be organized on Jan. 25 while the concluding ceremony will be held on Jan. 26.
