CAIRO, 10 December 2006 — With a public prosecutor’s order to exhume the body of actress Suad Hosni for a postmortem, who died in a fatal accident under mysterious circumstances five years ago in London, the efforts of the late superstar’s family to reopen the case for further investigation have succeeded, Al-Jazirah reported yesterday.
The family believes that her death was murder, not an accident or suicide. Hosni fell to her death from an apartment, and rumors at the time said she had been thrown from the flat by an intimate friend in order to steal her jewelry and diaries.
The favorable legal move came in response to a request from her family members demanding the re-examination of her body following the discovery of a transcript of a telephone conversation between Hosni’s friend Nadia Yusra and another person. The conversation might shed more light in to the circumstances that led to the tragic end of the actress, the lawyer representing her family said. The disappearance of several personal effects of the actress following her death had left several questions unanswered.
The family lawyer has filed an affidavit accusing Yusra of involvement in the murder of Hosni. She could be prosecuted in Egypt as she holds dual Egyptian-British nationality. The new development is supported by the first postmortem report, which ruled out a suicide, attributing the death to either an accidental fall or murder.
