JIZAN, 10 December 2006 — In protest of what he considered incompetence on the part of municipal officials, a Saudi man sent a brick that had broken off a new pavement project to the head of the Jizan municipality, the daily Okaz reported yesterday. The man included a note that said: “Who is responsible for the failures in Jizan municipal projects?” He was angry that a recently completed road project was already crumbling apart, and urged local officials to be more diligent in regulating the quality of work by municipal contractors. The officials got off easy — instead of sending the piece of concrete to the municipal head with an angry note, the man could have thrown the brick at the municipal head’s head.
