JEDDAH, 12 December 2006 — A Saudi man has been shut out of getting his driver’s license and car tags updated due to unpaid traffic violations. This may not be an unusual situation, until you learn the man owes SR63,000 in back fines, or about 13 pages of pending penalties that he accumulated over the years, according to a report in the local daily Al-Watan yesterday.

The man told that paper that while he knew he had some “pending issues” with authorities (which he said made him wary whenever he sees a street cop while he’s driving) he didn’t realize the severity of the situation.

The Traffic Department isn’t backing down, and expects the man to pay his dues.
