JEDDAH, 22 December 2006 — The Saudi Motor Sports Committee (SMSC) has announced its new regulation of license fee, following its membership of the International Automobile Federation (FIA).
The Kingdom was admitted to the FIA at its recent meeting in Barcelona, a spokesman of the SMSC told reporters yesterday.
The Kingdom had offered to join the FIA after Prince Sultan ibn Fahd of the Presidency of Youth Welfare decided to establish the SMSC. The committee is authorized to supervise and organize motor sport and motor cycle events and races and also promote such sports.
The committee has also taken the responsibility of scouting talents and promoting them for various motor sport activities.
“The idea is to encourage them to get trained and participate in racing events on the specified and dedicated tracks rather than on the streets and help them take part in national and international competitions,” he said.
The Kingdom had earlier obtained its membership of the motorcycles union (FIM) at its meeting held in Brazil, which was attended by SMSC President Moshaal Al-Sudairi. International racing champion Abdullah Bakhashab, also a member of SMSC, has been spearheading the move to seek the Kingdom’s membership of international organizations.
A meeting between International motoring body member Alan John Dounli and Prince Sultan further paved the way for the Kingdom’s membership of the international organizations.
The SMSC will specify team fees and and also charges for health checks and drivers’ licenses for karting, speed races, track races, drag races, motorcycle races and rallies, aside from team fees.
