JEDDAH, 26 December 2006 — The expected fireworks between the league top two sides did not materialize as Wehda of Makkah forced Al-Hilal to a 0-0 draw in the Saudi Football League at the Prince Faisal ibn Fahd Stadium in Riyadh.
Honors were even at the end of the 90-minute contest with both sides matching each other offensively and defensively.
As a result, Wehda remained in second place with 26 points and Hilal first with 32.
In Jeddah, Al-Ahli defeated Al-Hazem 3-2 at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal stadium. With the win, Ahli moved up to fifth place on 18 points. Hazem remained at the bottom of the standings on seven points.
Meanwhile, Taie of Hail play host to Al-Faisali today. The first leg match ended 2-0 in favor of Taie. Taie are currently in seventh position on 12 points and Al-Faisali 10th on 11.
In Jeddah, an explosive match in on the cards between Al-Ittihad and Al-Nasr at the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium. The third-ranked Ittihad on 23 points are looking to secure the game three points and take their share from Nasr’s pie. Nasr are currently in the danger zone in the eighth on 11 points from 11 matches.
Ittihad are expected to push forward from the first minute and score an early goal to confuse Nasr players. Nasr will be looking to wipe out the poor run of results from the last matches and put an end to the point leakages in a bid to get back on track for a final four spot. Nasr are in deep trouble 10 points adrift of the fourth-placed team. The last match is between Shabab and Khaleej in Riyadh at Prince Faisal ibn Fahd stadium. Shabab lost six points in the last two matches against Hilal 4-0 and against Al-Faisali 1-0. Shabab realize the seriousness of their situation after progressively slipped from second place to fourth and very likely further downto fifth if they continue losing points.
