JEDDAH, 26 December 2006 — The 2nd Olympic Judo and 4th Olympic Taekwondo Solidarity Courses were held in Riyadh. The taekwondo course ended Sunday while the judo course winds up today at the Mahad Idad Al-Qadah (Institute of Upbringing Leaders).
The twin course aimed at enhancing the skills of the trainers attracted 20 enrolees in judo and 15 in taekwondo. They came from martial arts clubs across the Kingdom.
One of the Administration Council members at the Saudi Taekwondo and Judo Federation, Abdulilah Al-Dallak, said they hope the trainers will pass on the new skills they learned from the courses to their athletes.
He said the courses manifest the desire of Prince sultan ibn Fahd, president of the General Presidency of Youth Welfare, and his deputy Nawaf ibn Faisal to provide the best training available for the country’s youth.
Saudi national judo team captain Mohammed Subai supervised the course along with international referee and technical committee member Moammar Al-Muaamar. International Judo Japanese expert Noroyoki Sanoha gave intensive presentations on the game development through the ages and updates on its rules and regulations.
Subai said these courses are organized and offered by the International Federation of Judo and Taekwondo once or twice a year. “It is very useful for all and more of it would help for sure,” he said. These courses, he added, offer theoretical and practical lessons and thus physical attendance of participants was encouraged.
“Educational information is very crucial thus concentrating on increasing the awareness of the game’s background, techniques and regulations from its experts benefitted the judo and taekwondo attendees here,” he said.
Korean taekwondo experts Professor Huwang In Sek and Yo Hai Min from the International Taekwondo Federation offered latest books on taekwondo during the course. International Saudi referee and technical secretary at the Saudi Taekwondo Federation, Mohammed Al-Doussari, made the presentations to the trainers.
