KARACHI, 4 January 2007 — Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz denied cracks in the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (Q) ranks and added that he and Chaudhry Shujaat have similar views about the next party candidate for prime minister’s office. Talking with newsmen in Karachi, Aziz said that the decision about the prime ministerial candidate would be made after the elections. He termed speculations about the government’s deal with Pakistan People’s Party-Parliamentarian as baseless saying that the government will contest next elections jointly with allies in the coalition.
The prime minister said that the Pak-Afghan border would be fenced to impede free movement of the elements on both sides of the border creating law and order problems. He said the national defense is being strengthened and all decisions are being taken in the national interest.
Meanwhile, MMA acting Secretary-General Liaquat Baloch has said that the Supreme Council (SC) meeting would be held in the second week of January for taking a final decision on the resignations from the National Assembly. Baloch said that the date for the MMA Supreme Council meeting would be announced after the leaders performing Haj return here. The meeting to be held at the residence of Qazi Hussain Ahmad at Islamabad would formulate the modus operandi about the resignations, he said.
