PUNE, 5 January 2007 — In a record-breaking event, 143 students of the Symbiosis Institute of Business Management(SIBM) in Pune, achieved 100 percent placements in just six hours on Wednesday, day one of the placement program.
Arun Mudbidri, the director of SIBM said that 207 offers were made to the 143 students with an average salary of rupees one million per annum, which accounts to about 1.45 offers per student.
The highest domestic offer for the freshers stood at rupees 1.2 million per annum offered by J.P. Morgan Chase and the highest international offer was $85,000 per annum offered by Olam International.
The recruiters belonged to every sector right from FMCG, banking and fnancial services, consulting, information technology, ITES, manufacturing and automobile to consumer durables, ritual, media and advertising.
Other recruiters included Sonly Gulf and Kaybee, said Mudbidri, and added that the recruitment process provided ample choice for the freshers too, with 63 companies making 148 offers leading to an average of 1.5 offers per student.
Mudbidri further stated that the placements also saw a large number of new recruiters like Morgan Staley, Advantage Services, Hong Kong and Shangai Banking Corporation (HSBC) Citifinancial, United Spirits, Goodyear, Reliance Industries (Retail), Bharti Airtel, Television Eighteen India Ltd and Adlabs Films Limited.
As for the lateral offers, there were 16 companies that made 43 offers with the number of offers per student standing at 1.65. The IT and ITES sector made the highest number of offers with the largest recruiter in terms of offers made being Wipro (eight offers) closely followed by Vonvansys (six offers) and HP (five offers), Mudbidri added.
Several leading manpower consultants based in Mumbai told Arab News that with the domestic job market turning very attractive and plenty of employment opportunities now available in the country, people are no longer interested in going abroad for employment. Salim Shaikh, owner of Zamzam International, said that he has not been able to find candidates for electrical engineers’ post in Muscat, as candidates tell him that the salaries that are offered are less than half compared to that given in India.
Santosh Shetty, managing partner of Shivam Tourism and Trade in downtown Colaba said that he could not find candidates for the post of reporters and sub-editors for a Doha daily, as those who showed interest backed out after knowing the salaries that were offered in Doha, stating that reporters and editors in leading dailies in India were drawing rupees 1,00,000 and above with all perks and benefits.
