KHULAIS, 12 January 2007 — As anyone who hears and understands the muezzin’s call to prayer five times a day, the call for Fajr (pre-dawn) prayer is slightly different than the other four — a way to get sleepyheads out of bed and into mosque. The line is simple: It says, “Prayer is better than sleep.” A Qur’an school in this western township decided to supplement this saying with an incentive, namely students who regularly attend Fajr prayer will be rewarded with two goats and minutes on their cell phones.
