SANAA, 14 January 2007 — A land mine exploded outside an archaeological site in north-central Yemen yesterday but caused no casualties or damage, police said.

The mine went off after dawn near the gate of the Mahram Bilqis, or Moon Temple, the legendary home of the Belquis Queen of the ancient Yemeni Sheba Kingdom northeast of Sanaa.

Marib, the most ancient city in Yemen and has many tourist attractions, was the scene of several suspected terrorist operations in the past. In September last year, bombers drove cars into oil facilities in Marib and the southeastern province of Hadhramout.
