ALKHOBAR, 15 January 2007 — The shocks caused by stock market crashes are manifested in different ways in different situations.

In the case of a Saudi couple, the crash of the Bisha Agricultural Development Company (BADC) on Saturday caused a family break-up, the Al-Yaum Arabic daily reported yesterday.

Tempted earlier by the rising stock prices, the husband borrowed money from his wife and invested it in the company, promising to return the money as soon as possible.

On Saturday, however, the Saudi Capital Market Authority suspended trading in the shares of the company following its continued losses.

The wife, who heard what happened, phoned her husband who was reeling from the shock of the bad news.

When she asked for her money, the man got angry and declared his intention to divorce her and hoped that all his problems would end with the divorce.
