JEDDAH, 16 January 2007 — The head of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce & Industry told Arab News yesterday the group’s new four-year strategic plan includes more attention to smaller economic players.

“The new strategy adopts a new approach that will emphasize supporting small business owners,” JCCI Chairman Saleh Al-Turki told Arab News yesterday. “We’ve established two funds in the new plan. One of them is the free Symbiotic Insurance Fund that guarantees a compensation of SR100,000 in life insurance to families of deceased business owners.”

He also said a 6-million-riyal fund is being established to help smaller businesses that are faltering. The plan, which is the result of four months of consultations with JCCI members, outlines the chamber’s programs and vision through 2010.

Beginning in the Islamic new year (Jan. 20), the life insurance plan will be available to third and fourth level members of the JCCI.

The JCCI will also open its doors to entrepreneurs involved in small fishing operations, said Al-Turki.

Al-Turki is scheduled to meet with the head of the Presidency of Civil Aviation, Abdullah Muhammad Ruhaimi, to discuss today how the JCCI research and planning subsidiary, called the House of Business, can work better with the private sector in areas related to the aviation industry.
