JEDDAH, 18 January 2007 — Twenty-nine-year-old Saudi filmmaker Muhanned Kumkumji announced he would begin working on a new film project titled “The Desert”, saying that the recent Saudi production “Kaif Al-Hal?” has ushered in period where Saudis will start to take film production more seriously.
Production company Rotana, which funded “Kaif Al-Hal?” will finance the project.
“The Desert” is a story based on true events that take place in the desert Kingdom. The project will be 100 percent Saudi produced and funded and is expected to be released in early 2008. Kumkumji previously produced a comedy short titled “Where is the Letter?” which lampooned major Hollywood motion pictures.
