MAKKAH, 22 January 2007 — Members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Makkah have arrested an Arab resident who treated patients without a license and claimed that he could heal people using Qur’an.
He said that he could cure infertility and charged people large amounts for his service. The commission branch in Makkah acted on reports from many people about the man’s suspicious activities.
Teams from the commission along with police monitored him and stormed his home when he had a female customer inside. He was caught in the middle of an intimate examination of the woman claiming that he was trying to cure her from infertility.
The man, who holds no medical degree, told police later that he was doing this because he enjoys it and because most of his victims are women who are willing to pay any amount of money in order to get a “cure” and give birth.
The fake doctor told Arab News that he had worked in the Kingdom for more than 30 years, including as a religious teacher. After his contract ended, he began working as a faith healer.
Ali Al-Subyani, a member of the commission in Makkah, said that the man is married and has four children. He confirmed that the fraudster used his religious background to cheat people and told them that he could cure incurable diseases.
