ABHA, 28 January 2007 — A Saudi man began his first day on the job yesterday after Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah ordered government officials in the Asir region to find work for him.
Ahmad Al-Asmari became the breadwinner for his three sisters and their dependents after the siblings’ mother committed suicide following the death of their father.
Al-Asmari, who has only a high-school diploma, was given a SR3,000-a-month state job with the municipality.
The head of Asir Municipality Hamdan Al-Osaimi said that the royal order came after local newspapers reported the suicide and the plight of the surviving dependents of the family ripped apart by poverty and the death of their sole breadwinner.
“Finding a job for the Saudi man was the least that we could do,” he said. “He was approved to work in the municipality in Mahayel because it is closer to where he lives. We congratulate Al-Asmari for his new job and we hope that this will benefit his family.”
Al-Asmari thanked King Abdullah and Crown Prince Sultan for attending to his needs. He also thanked the head of Asir municipality for providing him with a job that would secure his future.
“I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard the news of the job,” he said. “This job has eased a great deal of pain that our family has been subjected to.”
