I wrote an article proposing an idea — which had been suggested by many other writers — to change our weekend to Friday and Saturday instead of Thursday and Friday.
I believe that by doing so we could help ourselves when dealing with most of the outside world whose weekend is Saturday and Sunday. Under the current circumstances, a lot of work is delayed; therefore, changing our weekend would help to take advantage of an extra day to work in coordination with the international community.
One of my readers read my suggestion and praised my opinion but added a comment that I found realistic.
He said that we could start by applying this new strategy to institutions and sectors that work in coordination with international ones — such as banks and big commercial institutions that have regional and international offices.
There are also international and regional organizations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Finance and others. We may keep in mind that the weekend remains as it is — Thursday and Friday — for those which have no involvement or interaction with countries outside the Kingdom. For instance, schools, public sectors that serve locals and others would have no real need to change.
Creating and implementing this new system might give us the opportunity to experience the success shifting the weekend would bring about and also to evaluate the expected outcome.
If things work out well and advantages are gained from changing the weekend, then it could be put into effect for all public sectors.
On the other hand, if the results were not what we wanted or expected, the change should be limited to those who deal with the outside world or simply leave things as they are and keep Thursday and Friday as our weekend. Now, you have my opinion but I wonder about the opinions of the experts.
