SRINAGAR, 30 January 2007 — The Jammu and Kashmir government yesterday ordered exhumation of the body of a villager allegedly killed by the Special Operations Group (SOG) in a fake encounter here last month framing him as a foreign militant.
Relatives of the village carpenter, Abdul Rahman Paddar of Larnoo village in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district had filed an FIR with the police that Paddar had been missing from the Batmaloo area of the summer capital since Dec. 8 last year.
Farooq Ahmad, deputy inspector general of police Central Kashmir Range entrusted with the supervision of the investigations into the fate of the missing carpenter, took a meeting of the special investigation team (SIT) yesterday.
“A team from the national forensic lab Chandigarh is being requisitioned to assist the exhumation and subsequent DNA testing of the slain person to establish his identity,” Farooq Ahmad told this correspondent.
