Dedicating this column to Abdul Latif Jameel Community Services Programs has nothing to do with writing a sycophantic article for personal favors. I write this column because I feel proud and honored that a Saudi company is helping to advance the country. The aim of the company’s service to the community is to expand the benefits of its support. Their goal is to help a wider section of society: Young Saudi men and women.
Why aren’t there more companies like ALJ? The philanthropic endeavors of this fine institution (the country’s exclusive Toyota vendor, among other things) include creating tomorrow’s Saudi entrepreneurs. Saudis need programs like this to develop the skills this country needs so desperately. ALJ offers numerous technical training programs and it graduates hundreds of skilled Saudi workers each year at no expense to them or the country. ALJ sends aspiring business leaders abroad for studies. The company even provided some Saudis with their own taxis in Riyadh. If we had 100 men like Muhammad Jameel, the unemployment problem would be gone in a matter of weeks.
