JEDDAH, 7 February 2007 — Local police said yesterday they are investigating the motives behind an assault on a Yemeni national who had his male organs cut off allegedly over a small debt.
“It’s disgusting. And to know that the motive behind the crime is not paying off his SR200 ($53) debt is even more horrific,” said a doctor at King Abdul Aziz University Hospital where the victim was taken and is reportedly in stable condition.
The man’s penis and testicles were cut off. The perpetrators fled the victim’s home with the removed appendages in order to prevent them from being re-attached surgically.
A police report said that the victim is in his 30s and that authorities are looking for more than one suspect in the crime. The report says the victim was assaulted in his home in the south of the city in the middle of the night.
The victim says he knows the identity of at least one of the attackers: the man who was owed the money.
The doctor, who did not want to be identified in this report, said a few months back a foreign resident died at the hospital after his throat was slit over a SR500 ($133) debt.
