RIYADH, 14 February 2007 — Kingdom Equestrian Team won the Crown Prince Endurance Cup 2007 on Friday which took place in Alras town in the Gassim province in north of Riyadh.
The 50 who took part in the 120-km endurance race were the local riders and their highly professional and experienced counterparts from GCC countries.
“We are very proud of this achievement that came only a few weeks after our success at the Bahrain Endurance Race,” said Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, chairman of Kingdom Holding Company.
Abdulrahman Alhawas, one of the Kingdom team’s member, dominated the field to win the tough five-stage race in record time.
Najeeb Al Barjes, team manager and trainer said he was proud of his team’s performance and that their success was due to Prince Alwaleed’s continuous support which will motivate the team to further successes in future.
The Crown Prince Endurance Cup is one of the most important championships in endurance racing supervised by the Saudi Equestrian Federation and the International Equestrian Federation.
Last month, the Kingdom Equestrian Team won the 2007 Bahrain Endurance Championship. The team had won 1st, 3rd and 4th place during the race organized by The Equestrian Royal Federation for Endurance Races, under the patronage of Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa.
The occasion was also attended by Heba Fatani, executive manager Corporate Communications Department at KHC.
Prince Alwaleed said “we are delighted at this result and proud to support Saudi lady riders who have achieved spectacular results in that race.”
Prince Alwaleed had sponsored the first Saudi equestrian team comprising of three Saudi lady riders. The Kingdom team included Alia Alhwaete, Mohamed Al-Mihlisi, Noora Al-Yusuf, Abdulrahman Alhawas and Latifa Alsheikh at 14 the youngest of the participants. The team participated in the 120km race. The first place went to Mihlisi, Al Yusuf finished third and Alhwaete landed fourth in the endurance race.
