Once in a while I see something on the web that is so important, I wish I could automatically redirect your focus to it. Whatever your religion, you simply must find a broadband connection and then take the time to view “The Reminder” series produced by Ummah Films (www.ummahfilms.com). The Reminder is a wonderful example of what Saudi Arabia’s Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice should be doing, but often isn’t doing well. At Ummah Films, using some basic IT, a little humor and a lot of intelligence, Baba Ali, Mahdi Ahmad and their companions have created some “Reminders” about basic teachings and fundamentals of Islam.
Ummah Films is a Muslim film company that strives to provide “halal” entertainment to Muslims and non-Muslims alike. The company is not affiliated with any particular movement, sect or group. The Muslims behind Ummah Films condemn terrorism and any extremism done in the name of Islam. The films they produce are to help everyone understand more about Islam in an engaging, constructive manner.
As Baba Ali writes, “I am not better than anyone who watches these videos. I not only make these videos as reminder for the viewers but I make them as reminders for myself as well. I am constantly striving to improve myself so I can be a better Muslim, Inshallah. I know I have many faults so whenever someone reminds me of something of Islam, they do so because they care about me ... not because they are attacking me. Thus, I don’t take it personal and I hope my viewers don’t take it personal either.”
With more than a half million viewers, The Reminder series has become the biggest Muslim video blog on the Internet. Two seasons of episodes of The Reminder are posted at www.ummahfilms.com with a new episode of the series scheduled for release in about a week. I highly recommend the episodes “Haram Police,” “Pursuit of Cleanliness” and of course since we’re in the middle of the party season, “$25,000 Muslim Wedding.”
