DUBAI, 8 August 2007 — Dubai Police yesterday held a meeting with officials from the Saudi Civil Defense at the Dubai Police Headquarters to discuss ways in which officials from both countries could work together at times of disaster.
The meeting was attended by Brig. Jamal Mohammed Al-Marri, acting general commander of Dubai Police, and Maj. Gen. Adel Yusuf Al-Zamzi, director of Makkah Civil Defense. The two sides discussed issues pertaining to security in the two neighboring countries.
They also discussed the mechanisms that are needed to facilitate future cooperation. After that the Saudi delegation was given a tour of the Dubai Police Command and Operation Room, which is one of the best in the world.
Col. Omar Abdullah Abdul Aziz, director of the Operation Department at Dubai Police, explained to the delegation how the operation room helps the police maintain security in the emirate. He also showed them a three-dimensional map, which covers the whole emirate.
More than 1,000 surveillance cameras and air-borne cameras are linked to the map. These cameras act as eyes for the police. With the touch of a button, the police get an idea of what is happening in an area without being close to the scene. Some of these cameras can be used at night. They are also especially useful in rescue missions when buildings collapse.
At the end of the visit, Maj. Gen. Al-Zamzi expressed his thanks to Dubai Police and invited his Dubai counterparts to visit the Kingdom.
Meanwhile, Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA) plans to set up a first aid center to meet the medical needs of employees and laborers. The center, to be set up in association with the Department of Health and Medical Services in Dubai, will have high quality medical equipment, emergency kits and diagnostic sets. It will also have certified personnel dedicated primarily for the benefit of the workers.
