MAKKAH, 12 August 2007 — Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal will participate in the washing of the interior of the Kaaba on Tuesday under orders of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah. Prominent religious leaders, government officials and foreign dignitaries will attend the event. The Kaaba is washed twice a year, once before the fasting month of Ramadan and once during Haj. The washing of the Kaaba offers a rare opportunity for people to see the stark interior of the cube at the center of the Grand Mosque in Makkah. The key of the Kaaba is maintained by the Al-Shaebi family, which has held this duty even before the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him). The governor will wash the Kaaba with Zamzam water mixed with rosewater.
