JEDDAH, 15 August 2007 — Veteran players pose a strong challenge in the Mobily Summer Olympics 2007, which is currently under way at the ‘Sports village’ on the Corniche.
Thirty-two teams divided into eight groups are vying for the title at the event, which opened with football competitions last week and will continue up to August-end.
The teams comprise professionals including Hassan Khalifa, Mohamed Shlia, Marawan Basas, Khaled Al Shmrani, Abdullah Asiri and Khaled Kahwaji. The participating teams are involved in selecting the region’s groups known by titles as Hassan Gamgoum’s office, Ranan, Folla, Jeddah Autoz, The Airbase, Red Star, Al Galiah Al Aritriah, Kam of the media production, Al Azouri, Shabab Al Ghoof, Al Olymbi Nogoom Al Arab, Nosoor Gohaina, Hilal Al-Sham, Al Qalah, Al Sad, Al Sasi, Bin Ragab, Al Maserah, Elaph, Al Hamed, Taleat Al Quriyat, Banaga, Al Blues, Al Moustaqbal, Al Amal, Qasr Al Madinah Team, Tango, Rahal and Al Nogoom.
Al Blues won 5-1 against Al Maserah and Al Blues in the opening match. Nogoom Al Arab defeated Banaga 5-4. Nosoor Gohainah beat Bin Raghab 4-0. Red Star defeated Jeddah Outoz 3-0. Al Moustakbal won the match versus Shabab Al Ghoof 4-0.
A Mobily beach basketball tournament also commenced on July 26 Twenty teams have been divided into five groups for this event. Participating teams include Shabab Al Itihad, Soqor Mobily, Al Nojoom, Al Jaliah Al Artiria, Al Jaliah Al SudanIah, Al Nouon, Al Ahlam, Al Nomoor, Al Wafaa, Shabab Al Faisal, Al Amal, Jeddah Selection, Al Amal Wdana, Al Tadamon, Al Tahadi, Al wefaq and Satanic.
The most prominent result was the winning of Shabab Al Itehad versus Al Ahlam 25-7. Professional players gave presentations and staged shows at the venue.
Mobily beach volleyball is yet another event currently on. It started with the participation of a selection of great players such as Mohamed Knou, an Al Ahli Club coach, Sami Amin, Hani A Ghorab and Hani Mofleh.
All competitions will have a successful end, especially after the organizers have agreed to open their sports facilities for the public from 5 p.m. until the official start of the matches at 10 p.m. There are many other accompanying activities at the sports village including a league for the ‘Soap playground and ‘Folla rest’ that offers a challenge in electronic games. Playstations, games and an Internet cafe are among the facilities provided.
“This success comes as a result of Mobily’s support and sponsorship for many sport events in the Kingdom,” a Mobily executive said. There will be prizes, medals and financial rewards for the winners. There will also be a Championship Cup, medals, material presentations and financial rewards.
