Sitting alone, I watched the sky
The little birds that flew
Across the blue heavens high
Flapping their wings about
With not a care in the world
Nor a trace of worry
The independence and liberty
These little beings possess
I felt was the pinnacle
Of happiness and bliss
And everything that one
Could just dream of at best
I felt my gaze blur
At the turmoil of emotions
The foremost being envy
Burned through my veins
The liberty of these birds
Was an eyesore for me
As sudden as the surge was
It calmed down the same
As the full realization of
The truth of freedom sunk in
And I understood that
I am as lucky as those birds
My ancestors and elders
Had ascertained it for me
That I have the liberty
Of speech and action and am free
Because they left behind
A land that I call mine
Yes! My ancestors
Paid the price in blood
For the freedom of their children
That’s me and my siblings and you
For the land so pure
That Pakistan it was named
