RIYADH, 17 August 2007 — The National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) is investigating a possible sexual harassment case in a hospital, Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper reported yesterday.
The report did not provide many specific details about the case, such as the location of the hospital, the names of the persons involved or the nature of the harassment.
The report only said that the hospital involved was private-run and the woman who complained was reportedly a foreign doctor.
Suhail Zain Al-Abideen, a member of the executive council and the deputy of the head of studies at the NSHR, said that the group has consulted with the Ministry of Health on the complaint.
The NSHR is urging the ministry to pursue such cases seriously and take punitive action against colleagues that harass women working in hospitals.
Al-Abideen added that the NSHR intends to take up the matter with other official authorities as well.
The rights body has programs working with charity groups and the Ministry of Social Affairs to help all victims of sexual abuse and sexual harassment, Al-Abideen said without elaborating.
