AMMAN, 18 August 2007 — The Al-Rajihi Group will start production from its two cement factories in Jordan in May 2008, the group’s board Chairman Omar Al-Rajhi said on Thursday. He made the remarks during a meeting with Jordanian Prime Minister Marouf Bakhit, who expressed his government’s “readiness to clear all obstacles facing foreign investors in the country.” He also underlined the importance of foreign investments, particularly from the Gulf area, in spurring the Jordanian economy, according to an official statement. Al-Rajhi said that his group’s cement factories at Qatraneh in southern Jordan and in Mafraq near the border with Iraq would start production in May at a rate of more than 4 million tons a year.
