JEDDAH/TEHRAN, 24 August 2007 — Saudi Princess Nouf Bint Bandar, director of the Riyadh-based Lahd Gallery of Fine Arts, is organizing a weeklong exposition of photography and paintings of Arab countries in Tehran.
The art expo will begin on Sept. 1 and is being co-sponsored by the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Tehran as well as Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism Organization.
The exposition is another milestone reached by the Saudi princess to globally promote Saudi and Gulf women artists by giving them wider exposure.
“I am hoping that an exchange between the different Gulf and Arab cultures in the field of the arts would take place during these events, helping us to reach the same standing with the global arts movement,” she was quoted as saying in a previous interview with Arab News.
“My dream is to have art pieces from the Gulf that have a global touch displayed in museums and private galleries worldwide.” The princess last year organized a five-day art exhibition entitled “Eye on Jeddah” which showcased more than 50 pieces of art by 25 Saudi women artists from Jeddah and the Eastern Province.
