MAKKAH, 27 August 2007 — A 32-year-old Saudi soldier shot himself dead recently in the Umm Al-Jaud district of Makkah following a dispute with his wife. Maj. Abdul Mohsen Al-Maiman, a police spokesman, said the soldier was tasked with carrying out security checks. He shot himself using his military gun, he added.
Meanwhile, a man died in the city after falling from a fourth floor balcony while watering plants. Al-Maiman said an investigation was under way into the circumstances surrounding the death.
