RIYADH, 28 August 2007 — The Cassation Court yesterday handed jail sentences and lashes to 11 expatriate workers, including a woman, for the illegal brewing and selling of alcohol in Riyadh. The 11 expatriates will subsequently be deported once they complete their sentences.
Police said those apprehended had been bootlegging in the Kingdom for some time. Following a tip-off, they arrested three members of the gang, whose confessions eventually helped in the arrest of the other eight. The offenders, all African nationals between the ages of 25 and 49, confessed to the charges.
