JEDDAH, 29 August 2007 — Saudi director Mamdouh Salim’s documentary “Lailah Al-Badr” will be screened at the International Ismailiya Film Festival for short films beginning on Sept. 3 in Egypt. The 30-minute film explores the social customs and traditions in the Hijaz region, including the festivities of Eid, the special customs related to Ramadan, wedding functions and birth celebrations, the Arabic daily Al-Watan reported yesterday.
Salim pointed out that the participation of Saudi directors in international festivals gives directors an opportunity to learn from other, more experienced, filmmakers, which is essential in order to raise the standard of Saudi films.
