ALKHOBAR, 30 August 2007 — Inspired by the Philippine Embassy’s reintegration program planned for the Overseas Filipino Workers, a group of Filipino families in the Kingdom have formed a cooperative to promote financial literary among its members. Called the United Resources Multipurpose Cooperative or Uremco, the group is now in the process of being registered with the Cooperatives Development Agency in the Philippines.
Labor Attaché David Des Dicang, said head of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in the eastern region, witnessed the signing ceremonies for the new co-operative at Ramada Hotel.
Dicang said that Uremco’s birth is timely since his office is focusing on the need for reintegration preparedness among OFWs.
“The reintegration awareness should begin from the time the OFW leaves the Philippines,” he said.
Dr. Nestor Valenciano, currently the president of the group, said Uremco aims to promote a systematic financial planning management, savings and capital build-up funds program for its members.
“We are all going home sooner or later and we need to prepare ourselves for that day,” said Valenciano, an occupational health physician.
