JEDDAH, 1 September 2007 — Saudi Arabia play their first match against Thailand today in the 14th Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship in Jakarta, Indonesia. The tournament opened yesterday and will run through Sept. 9. Tomorrow, the Saudis face Sri Lanka. Saudi spikers did a two-month training camp in Riyadh, Taif and Serbia, where they played friendlies with the Serbian clubs. The event attracted 17 countries namely Qatar, Taiwan, Maldives, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Vietnam, Taipei, Australia, Pakistan, Korea, China, Japan, India, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Sri Lanka and host Indonesia. Matches are played at the indoor tennis stadium at the Senayan Sports Complex.
Water Polo Youth Team for Arab Tilt
JEDDAH , 1 September 2007— The Saudi national youth water polo team finished their one-month training camp in Montenegro and flew last night to Egypt for the Arab Water Polo Championship for under 23, which will be held in Cairo from Sept. 4 to 9. The team include Hussain Al-Jizani, Rida Al-Sadiq, Yassir Birnawi, Yassir Al-Zahrani, Walid Al-Ghamdi, Ayman Al-Oryani, Mohammed Gahal, Faisal Birnawi, Hattan Al-Olayan, Abdullah Al-Zahrani, Hamid Al-Nufaiyei, Adel Al-Malki, Mitib Al-Malki, Mohammed Al-Jubairi, and team captain Ahmed Al-Shammari.
Ramadan to Be Honored
JEDDAH, 1 September 2007 — The president of the Saudi Youth Welfare Presidency Prince Sultan ibn Fahd approved the nomination of veteran sport commentator Muhammad Ramadan to the list of Arab sport figures to be honored on Monday Sept. 24 in Riyadh. During the ceremony a number of Arab sport media personalities will be honored for their contribution in sports in their countries. Ramadan was nominated by the general media administration at the youth welfare. He is being cited for his long contribution to Saudi sports since the beginning. Besides his work in the sport media, Ramadan also held a position in the youth welfare presidency.
